This document describes how to download and install the legacy WiscVPN client on Windows 2000/XP/Vista 32bit systems. For instructions on the new client or 64bit system support, see WiscVPN (Win) - Downloading and Installing the WiscVPN AnyConnect Client.

NOTE: Windows 95/98, Windows Me, and Windows 2000 are no longer supported by the Help Desk. We can only provide best effort support. If we are unable to resolve your Windows 9x/2000 issue, you may be able to find help at Microsoft's Windows 95 website, Windows 98 website, Windows ME website, or their Windows 2000 website. These products are no longer actively supported by Microsoft. No further development will take place on these products and security updates are no longer issued. It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Windows XP or Windows Vista. |
Point a web browser to the Campus Network Services VPN Page http://www.doit.wisc.edu/network/vpn/index.asp
In the "Installation Directions and Downloads" table, locate your version of Windows. Click Download.
Save the installer file. In Internet Explorer, right-click WiscVPN-<current client version>-XPVista.exe for Windows XP and Vista, or WiscVPN-<current client version>-WinXP2k.exe for Windows 2000, choose Save Link Target As, and select a convenient location for the file, such as the Desktop.
Locate the downloaded WiscVPN-<current client version file> and double-click it.
If you are installing on Windows XP or Vista, you will see an Open file - Security warning dialog. Click Run to start installation.
Read the Faculty and Staff notification and click Ok to continue.
Click Setup to start the installation process.
If you are upgrading a previous client, setup will detect the older version and offer to uninstall for you. Click Yes to uninstall.
When you are prompted, click Finish to restart.
Once your computer restarts, setup may continue on its own or you may need to start setup again by double-clicking the installer file.
The "Welcome to the Installation Wizard for VPN Client" screen will appear. Click Next.
Read through the displayed License Agreement. Click Yes if you agree.
By default, the installer will place files in "C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client". If a different location is desired, click the Browse button. In most cases, the default location is appropriate. When satisfied with the location, click Next.
By default, the installer will create a Program Folder in the Start menu called "Cisco Systems VPN Client". If you wish to change this, type a new name in the "Program Folders" box. In most cases, the default location is appropriate. Click Next to continue.
The installer will prompt to restart the computer. Click Finish and proceed with the restart.
