Learn@UW - Creating a New Course Based on an Existing Template

This document is for Site Administrators only.

In order to create a new course based on an existing template, you must have the permission "Has access to the Manage Courses tool" in the "Manage Courses" area of the security settings turned on at the Course Template level.

If this permission is turned off at the Course Template level, when you select "create new course based on existing template" in "Course Management", no templates are listed.

This permission was introduced when template functionality was increased on the platform that allowed creating and copying components to be completed at the template level. While template level permissions existed before, they did not control much. With increased management at the template level, it became important to tighten security around template use.
